THE EVOLUTION OF PAINTING:

VISUAL STORIES
Peter VanDyck, Scott Noel, James Stewart, Alexandra Tyng, David Fertig

Beginning September 11, Wednesday Mornings, 10 am-12:30 pm on Zoom

In this online class Paul DuSold demonstrates how and why great paintings affect us by making copies of important paintings.

As the painting develops, Paul describes every step of his experience walking in the footsteps of the artist who created the original.

By watching the recreation of a painting from start to finish the viewer sees how the qualities of color, shape, light and shadow and space engage the imagination as the painting goes from a blank canvas to a finished work.  By seeing the painting develop, the student experiences how the painting works, and more fully grasps  the aesthetic intention of the artist.

Art historical and social context will also be explored.

Starting this September, The Evolution of Painting we will look at the work of five contemporary painters whose work express visual narratives. These narratives occur as historical reflections, contemporary mythology, personal biography and daily life.

Paul will copy a painting by each artist and discuss the experience of their work through recreating it!
The artists themselves will join us online.  We will also make in person studio visits to meet them and see their working environment. field trips to visit them in person in their studios
